A Winter Trip With Snow, Cowboys, and Zero Crowds

The Cariboo Might Be the Most Underrated Winter Trip in Canada

Gold Rush Towns and Cowboy Culture in the Cariboo

You wouldn’t think traveling somewhere colder in winter could make you feel so alive, but in the Cariboo of British Columbia, the chill comes with its own kind of warmth. When I traveled there this January, I fell in love with winter in a way I didn’t think was possible. My days were filled with snowshoeing through quiet forests, huddling inside glowing tents for ice fishing, and watching a 200-year-old dog-sled mail run race through a preserved Gold Rush town. The north calls to be explored at its coldest: raw, wild, and completely itself.

Even when the temperatures dip well below freezing, the Cariboo’s endless winter adventures, cowboy culture, and unmistakable Canadian friendliness will keep you warm in a whole new way.

Until next time,
