BARK Air Is Launching Luxury Dog-First Retreats

For years, “pet-friendly travel” has meant compromise. Limited room options, strict rules, and the quiet understanding that dogs come second, especially if they weigh more than 17 pounds. BARK Air is betting those days are over.

In early January, the dog-first airline announced BARK Air Dog-First Island Retreats, a four-night luxury stay at Kona Village, a Rosewood Resort on Hawaiʻi’s Big Island. The experience is built around what dogs actually enjoy, from pet-first travel logistics to island activities designed with canine comfort in mind. Humans are welcome, too.

Whether this marks the start of a new luxury travel niche or a bold experiment, one thing is clear: traveling with dogs is no longer an afterthought.
