The Best Dog-Friendly Trips to Take in 2026

I recently read about a new study that found humans and wolves have coexisted on a deeper level than anyone previously thought. Researchers discovered wolves on an island where they aren't native, suggesting humans brought them over on boats, and identified skeletons of wolves with significant injuries, indicating humans took care of them when they couldn't hunt.

It's a fascinating find, and really makes you think about the connection between humans and our canine best friends. Why is it that we, as humans, can feel as much love for another species as we do our own? And how is it that we can cross communication barriers and just know when our dog gives us that look that says, "you'd better scratch my ears right now?"

It's hard to find the words for how much happiness my dog has brought into my life, and many of our editors feel the same. So we decided to celebrate our furry family members with a list of 15 of the best dog-friendly destinations in the US and Canada, for travelers who know 2026 isn't the year to leave the dog(s) behind.

I'll close with one of my favorite sayings about our canine companions: Everyone thinks they have the best dog in the world — and everyone is right. ❤️ 🐾

See you (and your dogs) out there,
