Rush Maltz has run charters out of The Florida Keys for more than two decades, born and raised in these waters. While he knows The Keys better than almost anyone, he sets out to fill in the gaps. He seeks out the places and people he'd somehow never taken the time to meet.

In this three-part documentary series, Rush breaks from his usual routine to travel the length of the island chain: Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, The Lower Keys, and his own home of Key West. He lets the locals who never left guide him through everything he'd been missing.

Key Largo and Marathon

Rush starts in Key Largo, home of the famous Christ of the Deep, one of the most iconic dive sites in the world. An offshore guy at heart, he steps out of his comfort zone to fly fish the flats, then winds down at the Caribbean Club, a beloved landmark and the oldest watering hole in the Upper Keys.

His final stop is Pigeon Key, Marathon's best-kept secret.

The Lower Keys and Islamorada

Rush works his way south through Islamorada, the self-proclaimed "Sportfishing Capital of the World," before dropping into the depths of the Bahia Honda Channel in The Lower Keys. There he swaps his rod for a spear, following a world-champion lionfish huntress even deeper.

He learns why there's no limit on hunting these invasive newcomers, and why every one taken helps protect the waters that make The Keys so extraordinary.

Key West

Rush completes his journey in Key West, connecting with Junkanoo culture in Bahama Village and the local musicians who give Key West its unmistakable soundtrack. And when a rare day off finds him, it's no surprise where he ends up.
