Wellness travel is no longer just a spa break. Industry experts expect wellness travel to be a $1.4 trillion industry by 2027. As optimization culture continues to grow in influence, luxury hotels around the world are offering increasingly specific treatments for the interested traveler, from genetic testing to targeted biohacking tools.

But sometimes what’s really needed is a sense of place. High-tech saunas and spas may have exact temperatures and hyper-personalized routines, but “the third leg of the stool is missing: reconnection and the experience of being in nature,” says Alex Yenni, the cofounder of the Bay Area’s first floating sauna.

And it goes beyond just offering a sauna with a view.
