The Forest Service Is Spraying Roundup Near Lake Tahoe
If you've hiked, skied, or camped around Lake Tahoe, here's something worth knowing. The US Forest Service has approved a restoration plan for land burned in the 2021 Caldor Fire… and it includes the use of glyphosate, the herbicide most people know as Roundup.
The herbicide won't be applied until 2028, and only to specific areas away from waterways, but the plan has sparked pushback from residents and environmental groups, arriving the same week a national investigation revealed a fivefold increase in glyphosate use across California's forests over the past two decades.
