United’s New Cabins Put Premium Passengers First
Like many flyers, I’m an economy girl through and through. But I’ve flown first class once. And yes, unfortunately, it was everything I imagined and more, with the best sleep I’ve ever had on a plane.
Now United’s newest planes make one thing clear: luxury flying, and the passengers paying for it, are the priority.
The airline is rolling out updated aircraft with far fewer economy seats, dropping from 188 to just 123, while nearly half the plane is now dedicated to premium cabins. Translation: more cabin space up front, less for those in economy.
So if economy feels tighter lately, it’s not in your head. Airlines are betting on higher-paying passengers, and the gap between cabins is only getting wider.

Alaska Airlines Launches Business Class Suites

United isn’t the only airline doubling down on premium seats. Alaska Airlines, long known for value-focused, short-haul flights, is now making a move into long-haul luxury.
The airline just announced new Business Class Suites for international routes, complete with upgraded privacy, comfort, and high-end amenities. It’s a clear signal that they’re chasing higher-paying travelers, too.
